SETUP

Game Setup

Follow these simple steps to set up your Gridmatch game and start playing

1

Shuffle all 38 cards and place the deck face down to create a draw pile

Make sure all cards are thoroughly shuffled for a random game experience. Place them in a neat pile within easy reach.

2

Draw 4 cards and place them in front of you, to create your "hand"

These will be your starting cards. Keep them visible and organized for easy selection during gameplay.

3

Turn the top card face up. Rotate it any way you want to create the top-left corner of the 4x4 "grid"

This card starts your grid. You can rotate it in any direction - there's no wrong orientation. This becomes your first grid position.

HOW TO PLAY

Gameplay Rules

Follow these rules to play Gridmatch and complete your grid successfully

Play a card

Pick any card from your hand and place it into an empty space in the "grid". The card must touch at least one card already in the grid (above, below, left, or right - never diagonally). You may rotate the card any way you like before placing it.
1

Matching symbols

Whenever cards touch, the symbols on the touching sides must match. Numbers are only for scoring at the end.
They are only for scoring
2

Cards are fixed

Once placed, a card cannot be moved.
3

Draw a card

After placing, draw the top card from the draw pile and place it in a discard pile adjacent to the draw pile, so you always have 4 cards in your hand.
Always 4 cards in hand
4

If you can't play

Choose one card from your hand and place it in a discard pile. Then draw a replacement card from the draw pile, so you always have 4 cards in your hand.
5

Continue playing

Keep playing until the grid is full or you have no moves left.
6

Important Rule

Remember: Once a card is placed, it cannot be moved. Plan your moves carefully!

Finishing & Scoring

Learn when the game ends and how to calculate your final score

When Does the Game End?

Win: If all 16 cards are in the grid.
Lose: None of your 4 cards can be placed (no matter how you rotate them), then discarding doesn't help.

Scoring

3
If you do not complete the grid, you score zero
4
If you complete a 16-card grid, add up the numbers on each card
5
Subtract the number on the top-left card
The remainder is your score
